Update: Sotheby officiated its Important Watches auction at its New York location on June 5.  From the lots, a particular spotlight was put on Sylvester Stallone’s personal collection, specifically a rare example of the Patek Philippe Ref. 6300G-010 Grandmaster Chime. Stallone’s collection had garnered a total of $6.7 million USD in sales with 100% of lots sold. A majority of that sum came from the sale of Ref. 6300G-010 alone, which exceeded its initial estimation and fetched $5.4 million USD.

Speaking on this auction, Geoff Hess, Sotheby’s Head of Watches Americas says, “The sale of the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime was an unrepeatable celebration, not only of a masterpiece by the most revered Swiss-watchmakers of technical excellence, but also of the legendary icon that is Sylvester Stallone, who has been deeply influential and admired collector for many decades. To feel the pulse of collectors racing with excitement in the pursuit of absolute top caliber material was tremendous, and an homage to the art of collecting at the highest level.”

Coming up in June, Sotheby’s will be presenting The Important Watches auction in New York, where a myriad of prestigious and coveted timepieces will go under the hammer. The lot includes 11 watches from esteemed actor, Sylvester Stallone’s personal collection, featuring rare and screen-worn pieces from the likes of Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Rolex, Piaget and Panerai.

Stallone’s legendary status as an actor is promulgated through the iconic roles he’s portrayed, notably John Rambo and Rocky Bolboa. Aside from his work in acting and filmmaking, Stallone is also an influential and passionate collector of watches. “I enjoy the collecting process like so many others in this passionate community, who don’t just see watches as an accessory, but admire them for their history, craftsmanship, artistry – but most importantly – how they make them feel,” says Stallone.

Among the 11 timepieces from the actor’s collection, the unopened Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300G-010 is spotlighted. Estimated for $2.5 – $5 million USD, the reference is the first grand sonnerie wristwatch to be added to the Maison’s current collection. Known for its high complexity, the watch is geared with 20 complications, two independent dials, 6 patented innovations, 5 chiming modes and a stunning reversible case that took 100,000 hours to craft.

The Panerai PAM00382 Luminor Submersible 1950 is another noteworthy timepiece from the lot.  Dubbed “Bronzo” by its makers, this particular reference is the exact piece that adorned Stallone’s wrist in the 2011 film The Expendables 2. Crafted from bronze, it’s a truly unique time-teller that has aged with wear, exuding a distinct, time-weathered look that is unique to its owner. Estimated to fetch between $30,000 – $60,000 USD, the new owner of the watch will also receive a signed movie poster.

The Important Watches auction will take place at Sotheby’s New York location on June 5.  Head over to the auction’s special webpage for more information on all the pieces.
