Introducing The Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV – Monochrome Watches

This July, in support of the Australian non-profit Reef Restoration Foundation, Oris presents the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV. This release features several unique design elements that make it particularly special.

The Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV is based on the latest-generation Aquis Date 43.50mm, unveiled earlier this year. The stainless steel case boasts 300m water resistance. It features a screw-in crown and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a grey tungsten insert displaying a 60-minute scale and a triangle at the top. The screwed case back is engraved with an image of coral and a starfish, along with the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition inscription and individual limited-edition numbering, with a total of 2,000 pieces available.

Protected by the double-domed sapphire crystal, the dial in turquoise and blue hues features a vertical gradient, simulating the sun’s rays filtering through the water of the Great Barrier Reef as seen from above. The applied, shield-shaped, and faceted hour indices stand tall, contributing to excellent legibility and the Alpha-style hour and minute hands. All the hands, indices and the lollipop central seconds hand are treated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring visibility in low-light conditions. The window at 6 o’clock shows a date disc matching the darker dial section.

The new Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV is powered by the in-house Calibre 400 automatic movement. It boasts a 5-day power reserve and advanced anti-magnetic capabilities, achieved through the use of silicon for the anchor and escape wheel and non-ferrous materials for the axes that hold the balance wheel, escape wheel, and anchor. Operating within COSC-recommended chronometric parameters, the Calibre 400 offers an impressive accuracy of –3/+5 seconds daily. The watch also features a 10-year recommended service interval and a commendable 10-year warranty upon registration.

The new Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV features a three-link bracelet and Oris’s patented strap change and quick adjustment systems for added convenience. It costs CHF 3,900, and each purchase supports the Reef Restoration Foundation’s coral-tree-planting initiative, aiding crucial conservation efforts to protect the endangered Great Barrier Reef, one of Earth’s natural wonders.
