With brand ambassadors in triathlon, surfing, snowboarding and both football and ‘soccer’, no could accuse Breitling of neglecting sports fans as one of its target demographics.
Another sport that falls under its purview is basketball – as represented by its ambassador Giannis Antetokounmpo, the 6’11’’ NBA player and subject of a recent Amazon documentary.
Antetokounmpo signed with Breitling in 2022. Since then, he has fronted campaigns for both its Navitimer and its Chronomat family of watches and is frequently seen out and about in editions of one or the other.
He is also a legitimate watch fan, with a collection said to number around 80 timepieces – and not all of them supplied by his sponsor.
Now Breitling has released a pair of watches in collaboration with the athlete, said to capture his ‘incredible personal style and sense of self’.
The new editions are both Chronomats: the 40mm steel Chronomat GMT ‘Giannis Antetokounmpo’ and the 42mm red gold Chromomat B01 ‘Giannis Antetokounmpo’.
Extra Antetokounmpo-related details include the initials ‘GA’ on the central hand and a basketball emblem on the chronograph counter at 9 o’clock. The dial shade, meanwhile, is based the green of his team, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Both watches are limited editions: 1,750 for the steel Chronomat GMT, and 250 for the gold Chronomat chronograph.
The B01 chronograph is also being released on a rubber version of the Chronomat’s trademark bracelet – a first for the line.
In addition Breitling has created a unique version of the Chronomat B01 featuring golden numerals in Arabic, with a white inner bezel and white contrasting chronograph counters against the green dial.
This watch will prove a true rarity, however – it’s produced in a run of ‘one of one’, for the player that inspired it.
