What’s the best deal in this sale so far? It’s absolutely the Garmin fēnix 7 Sapphire Solar, on sale for just $549. The Sapphire Solar is almost exactly like our “Best Overall” outdoor watch pick, the Pro Solar; however, the Sapphire Solar is lighter (has a titanium bezel) and has less glare due to its sapphire screen. The sapphire screen is stronger, but also a bit darker because of how it tempers glare. If you’re outside a ton (which you should be for this watch) then the tdarker screen won’t be too noticeable. What makes the Pro Solar better to us is the stainless steel bezel is stronger and the display is brighter, which makes for better everyday use.
You really can’t go wrong with the Sapphire Solar though, especially when it’s on a sale like this for Prime day. It has a battery capable of lasting a whopping 57 hours in full GPS mode—plenty of time to complete a multi-day backpacking trip, an ultramarathon or your bike club’s latest century ride.
With the fēnix 7 Sapphire Solar, you get all the basic stats like distance, calories, and a GPS map. But then you also get a bunch of more interesting stats like cadence, stride length, fastest mile, ground contact time, and more. You even load your own music onto the watch for phone-free listening. There’s also a lot to love with when using the fēnix 7 Pro Solar for weight lifting sessions. Hitting the “Strength” mode gives you timer that keeps you on track, breaking down each working set my working sets—it attempts to count your reps, but this feature was a little buggy at times. The best highlight of the strength mode is it counts your rest time, which helps ensure proper rest while also keeping you from getting distracted.
